The Televerse #332- 2018 TV Resolutions

Another year, another pair of TV goals. With 2018 underway and several series starting back up, it’s time for Noel and Kate to refresh their TV resolutions. How did we do with our 2017 resolutions to watch more anime and streaming series, and what impact, if any, has that made on the way we interact with TV? Noel and Kate discuss this and more in our special segment this episode, then unveil our resolutions for the new year. Before that, however, we have a full week of TV to break down. First up are the week’s comedy and reality offerings, including the Golden Globes, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, black-ish, Top Chef: Colorado, and The Amazing Race. Then we move over to the week’s drama and genre installments, including the premiere of The Chi, the midseason premiere of Star Trek: Discovery, the finale of Marvel’s Runaways, and new episodes of The X-Files and Steven Universe. How did Seth Meyers fare at the Golden Globes? Should the inclusion of contestants who are in recovery affect how Top Chef and other competition shows shape their challenges? Just how awesome is Lars’ new cape, and *why*, Star Trek: Discovery, *why*?!? All of this and more in this week’s episode of The Televerse.

The Televerse #327- Twin Peaks Season 3 with Emily L. Stephens

We’re heading into the end of the calendar year, and with The 2017 List-ening looming, it’s the perfect time to revisit one of the year’s most fascinating and puzzling entries, the return of Twin Peaks. Joining Kate to break down the alternately confusing and compelling season is friend of the show Emily L. Stephens of The A.V. Club. Before we dive into the strange world of Frost and Lynch, however, there’s a very full week of TV to discuss. First Noel and Kate look at the comedies, including the holiday returns of Psych and Superstore, the finale of Broad City, and the epic 99th episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. After a brief dip into reality to discuss the premiere of Top Chef, it’s time for the week’s genre episodes. Noel only lasted about 10 minutes into the Happy! premiere, and we chat about why. Then there’s the premiere of Agents of SHIELD, a dramatic return on Outlander, and the fall finales of Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, and Arrow. Which series are getting their silliness quotient right and which could stand to be a bit less precious? Which returns have us the most jazzed, and which show doesn’t seem to realize it’s retreading ground powerfully trod earlier this year in cinemas? Take a listen, then reach out with your thoughts on the week’s TV.

The Televerse #275- 2016 Winter Midseason finales

It’s been a difficult week in our personal lives, so we’re keeping the podcast simple this episode, focusing on our week in TV without a DVD Shelf or special segment. There’s still plenty of TV to discuss, however, as we catch up with finales from this week and last. First up is drama, with Kate giving her spoiler-free thoughts on the Pitch finale, followed by comedy, as Kate catches up with the Insecure finale and Noel and Kate talk through last week’s standout episode of black-ish and another fun Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Then we head over to reality, with Kate’s thoughts on Hairspray Live! and a baking and cooking showdown courtesy of the premieres of The Great American Baking Show and Top Chef. Last, we round out our week in TV are the genre offerings, the midseason finales of The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow.

Then it’s over to genre and drama, including a (mostly) spoiler-free look at the beginning of Daredevil season two, Supergirl’s Red Kryptonite episode, and another entertaining American Crime Story. Afterward, Jason Griffin of TVx3 and TheTVaholic returns to the DVD Shelf to whisk Kate off to the picturesque town of Cicely, Alaska to talk Northern Exposure.

The Televerse #22- Chuck with Shawn Keown

It's time for a new segment, the Spotlight of Shame, when Simon and Kate spend far too long discussing the pilot of Touch. Then it's a somewhat lackluster week in TV before we spotlight Justified’s latest, "Cut Ties", and wrap things up with a look at fan favorite series Chuck, with Shawn Keown from the Zero Pretension podcast joining us at the DVD Shelf.
