This Is Our Design #39- “The Wrath of the Lamb” with Noel Kirkpatrick

For possibly the final time, welcome back to This Is Our Design. With some time to digest the season three finale of Hannibal, set aside a chunk of your evening (and by that, we mean over three and a half hours) to dive in with co-hosts Sean Colletti and Kate Kulzick, who are joined by Noel Kirkpatrick of TV.com to help with the discussion of “The Wrath of the Lamb”—a discussion with very differing opinions. As always, stick around for “Kate’s Classical Corner” and “The Devil in the Details,” but also of interest are our season three and series awards. Finally, we wanted to take the time to thank as many people as possible, which make up the final minutes of this podcast.

This Is Our Design #38- “The Number of the Beast is 666…” with Cooper S. Beckett

Welcome back to This Is Our Design. All good things come in small packages. All great podcasts come a couple days late. We're not really sure if either of these things is true, but we know this: You don't owe us your listenership... you owe us AWE (we're actually not very sure about this, either; we just like to believe it). This week, co-hosts Sean Colletti and Kate Kulzick are joined by author Cooper S. Beckett of Eat The Rudecast as the crew breaks down yet another strong central sequence in addition to talking about folk tales and much more. This, of course, all leads into "Kate's Classical Corner" and "The Devil in the Details," which are always ready to shock and disturb you with how thorough they are.

This Is Our Design #37- “…And the Beast from the Sea” with Aaron Abrams

Welcome back to This Is Our Design. As the season (and possibly series) nears its end, we're pulling out all the stops. This week, co-hosts Kate Kulzick and Sean Colletti are joined by Aaron Abrams of Hannibal (and much more). While discussing "...And the Beast from the Sea," the group gets into ideas of change, duality (Mr. Abrams makes an astute observation about the multiple versions of Brian Zeller), heroism, and the viewers' complicated relationships with certain characters. Scott Thompson was also on the call, but since he had no lines in this episode, he chose not to respond to any of the questions, which is certainly his prerogative (Thompson was not actually on the call—sorry). Stick around for recurring segments, "Kate's Classical Corner" and "The Devil in the Details," as we pick apart as much as we can while we still have stuff to pick apart.

This Is Our Design #36- “And the Woman Clothed in Sun” with Don Mancini

Welcome back to This Is Our Design. This week, co-hosts Kate Kulzick and Sean Colletti are joined by father of Chucky and the Child's Play series, Don Mancini. Finally, we get answers to the lack-of-subject idiosyncratic writing of Hannibal that we've been talking about for years. Now we know! But perhaps of more interest to listeners (perhaps), the crew talks about the beauty of the tiger scene and its implications for Francis Dolarhyde, parallels between the Will-Hannibal relationship and the Francis-Reba relationship, the wrapping up of Bedelia's backstory with Hannibal, and how Mr. Mancini found his way into the writing room for this season. Stick around for your favorite recurring segments, "The Devil in the Details" and "Kate's Classical Corner".

This Is Our Design #35- “And the Woman Clothed with the Sun…” with Randy Dankievitch

Welcome back to This Is Our Design. After some technical difficulties, we have returned, just like Will has returned to Hannibal (although, we did it much sooner than three years; we can't bear to be away from you for very long). Co-hosts Sean Colletti and Kate Kulzick are joined this week by prolific critic Randy Dankievitch of TVOvermind and many other media outlets to help break down another dense episode. Topics include a closer look at Francis Dolarhyde, consideration of two-character dialog, and the use of flashbacks. Stick around for "Kate's Classical Corner" and "The Devil in the Details" for more goodies before you feast on more Hannibal this weekend.

This Is Our Design #34- “The Great Red Dragon” with Les Chappell

Welcome back to This Is Our Design. Looking for a long podcast this week? Well, you're in luck. It turns out that when a show fast-forwards three years and introduces Richard Armitage as the Red Dragon, there are a few things to talk about. Just a few... All of these things get addressed in full by co-hosts Kate Kulzick and Sean Colletti with the help of Les Chappell of The A.V. Club. Start off with an appetizer, "Hannibal by the Numbers," before the groups kicks off the discussion with thoughts on adaptation, moving right along to the Red Dragon himself and what his presence means for Will and Hannibal. Stick around for your weekly dose of "Kate's Classical Corner" and "The Devil in the Details," which we know you're addicted to—we'd tell you to stop, but we kind of like it.

This Is Our Design #33- “Digestivo” with Libby Hill

Welcome back to This Is Our Design. Will and Hannibal are back in Maryland, and co-hosts Sean Colletti and Kate Kulzick are back in California and Illinois (one of which features background rain this week; place your bets). What does that mean? Not much more than usual, except that the crew brought in the spectacular Libby Hill of the Los Angeles Times. It's mid-season finale time with "Digestivo," and the group breaks down the various important aspects of the episode and series of episodes, such as how the characters have changed and where are Will's dogs!? (Seriously, though—we're upset.) Additionally, feast your ears on the recurring segments "Hannibal by the Numbers," "Kate's Classical Corner," and "The Devil in the Details," in which the amount of time spent studying this show is exposed as preposterous. As always, you can find us on Twitter or send us an e-mail at thisisourdesign666[at]gmail.com.

This Is Our Design #32- “Dolce,” live from SDCC

Welcome back to This Is Our Design. This week, we bring you a special in-person edition of the podcast, thanks to the universe bringing all the nerds together in San Diego for Comic-Con. Co-hosts Kate Kulzick and Sean Colletti get together to talk all things "Dolce," including the ridiculously good direction of Vincenzo Natali and the crucial reunion of Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter. Warning: Some of the audio clips in this episode somewhat drown out the discussion for a couple seconds. You can blame Sean for this, because he is technologically inept. We're not even sure how he exists in this day and age. Weird. Anyway, stick around for all the usual goodies, including a delayed "Hannibal by the Numbers," "Kate's Classical Corner," and "The Devil in the Details," and be sure to enter into the drawing for a free copy of Hannibal season two on DVD if you are interested in that.

This Is Our Design #31- “Contorno” with Dennis Perkins and Emily L. Stephens

Welcome back to This Is Our Design. Time to start worrying? Since the recording of this podcast and the posting of it, Amazon and Netflix have announced that they're passing on Bryan Fuller's arthouse series. Even if the worst possible thing happens, though, we've hired billions of monkeys to develop future scripts for Hannibal, which doesn't really matter if the show isn't picked up by another network. Also, couldn't we have used that money in a Kickstarter for the show or something? We didn't think this through... But co-hosts Sean Colletti and Kate Kulzick certainly think other things through this week with the help of Dennis Perkins and Emily L. Stephens, of The A.V. Club fame. It's an event-filled episode, including another iconic fight between Jack Crawford and Hannibal Lecter. Yet there's plenty more to talk about, such as character motivations, the role of happiness, and of course, music and other elements worth pointing out in "Kate's Classical Corner" and "The Devil in the Details".

This Is Our Design #30- “Aperitivo” with Molly Eichel

Welcome back to This Is Our Design. We're sorry to inform you that NBC has officially cancelled this podcast, but we're hopeful one of the streaming services will pick us up. In the meantime, check out our daily Aquarius podcast, which has already been renewed for 40 more seasons. On a more serious note, who has time for being serious? We suppose co-hosts Kate Kulzick and Sean Colletti might, as they delve into "Aperitivo" with the help of The A.V. Club critic Molly Eichel. It's an eventful episode that catches us back up with all our main characters—and Chilton. Psyche! We love Chilton and value him just as much as anyone else, even if he's...not all there. Have a listen as the crew discusses change among the central characters, Bella's departure, our new Mason Verger, and much more. Stick around for "Kate's Classical Corner" and "The Devil in the Details" in yet another episode of This is Our Design that is longer than the actual Hannibal episode we talk about (we're aiming for a 10-hour podcast by the time the season finale rolls around, which will surely kill the editors of the podcast, who are actually trained velociraptors). Please feel free to contact us at thisisourdesign666[at]gmail.com.
