Allison, Noel, and Kate start week 17 Streaming In Place by looking back at Avatar: The Last Airbender season two, Book Two: Earth. Can anyone compete with Toph as our favorite character? Are we still traumatized over “Appa’s Lost Days”? Did the writers manage to get us onboard with Zuko and Jet? Tune in for our thoughts on season two and those of our listeners, and come back tomorrow as we dive in with season three.
Shout-out to our Zoom listeners, Diego, Keenan, Marcus, Scottie, and Tom! Thanks for joining in and sharing your thoughts on the season, and your hopes for season three.

I want to see the Independent Women Part I video reimagined as the soundtrack Deathtiny’s Child. The season was very strong, en masse better than the first. Momo was the MVP. Those emotional episodes towards the end were stellar. I also want to shout out the episode “Bluey-Eyed Mode”. It was cinematic and the editing between the two fight scenes was top notch. I think I liked the arcing more in the first half of the season. The eclipse narrative device didn’t work so well for me.
I’m almost glad about where Zuko finished the season. I didn’t find Iroh’s pep talk all that convincing. Yes, Zuko needed to figure out what he wanted from life and to stop being impulsive but suddenly that got conflated with the idea that you must defect from the Fire Nation to be a good person or something. If that was what Iroh meant then he has no credibility unless he is more forthright about his own sordid past.
