Noel, Allison, and Kate finish their journey with Avatar: The Last Airbender season one, episodes 19 and 20, “The Siege of the North.” Those gorgeous visuals, the terrifying Ko, and of course, Coyzilla. And yes, his girlfriend did indeed turn into the moon. Tune in for our thoughts on these episodes and come back tomorrow as we look back at the season as a whole.
Shout-out to our Zoom listeners, Marcus and Scottie! We’re looking forward to hearing your takes on the season tomorrow.

Koh is *really* creepy. But you know what it reminded me of? Gary Oldman’s character in the 1998 Lost in Space movie. At the end of the movie he is somehow fused with some creepy spider monster but you can still make out his face within it all. I’m pretty sure I got one or two nightmares of that peek into the uncanny valley of horror.
The Yue and Sokka “romance” felt way to rushed for me to get invested in. I did get invested in Yue as a character, not so much in their relationship though. I think it would have been way more hard-hitting if we had spent more time with them. Maybe show them sneaking off, bouncing off fantasies of what could have been if Yue wasn’t already engaged. Also: Yue and Sokka don’t have that much in common (apart from maybe losing their respective mothers as Yue’s mother is nowhere to be found either) and they didn’t have enough chemistry to sell their attraction towards each other apart from “Yue is really pretty” and “Here’s somoeone who doesn’t see me as The Princess(tm) and who’s not interested in me purely out of political reasons. Plus he follows me around like a puppy and he’s easy on the eyes, too”.
And yes, the visuals were really, really stunning. And Katara held her own so well against Zuko. I was really happy with that.
Also, that very specific hero shot you mentioned last time: I love the expression they use over at the Cinematic Universe podcast (to which I got introduced by friend of the show Caroline Siede being on a few episodes): Punch-the-air-moment. It is the best description of that rush of emotions an empathetic viewer feels in a scene like that I have encountered up until now. It’s also something you cannot translate into German without using several sentences and relative clauses which we (obviously) love using 😀
Favorite main character: Appa
2nd favorite main character: Katara.
I’m kidding. It’s also Appa. He is 1st AND 2nd. But then Katara is on 3rd!
Favorite side character: Leader of the female warriors of Kyoshi (Suki?). I don’t know why but that left an impression and I’d love to know more about how that came to be.
