Kate is sick once again, so we’re keeping the podcast on the short side this episode. There’s still plenty of TV for us to cover, though. We kick things off with our week in TV, starting with the comedies, including Full Frontal with Samantha Bee’s “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner 2,” Bob’s Burgers, and The Last O.G. Then Kate talks a little RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Noel catches up with the latest anime releases in Noel’s anime corner: One-Punch Man, Fruits Basket, Hitoribocchi no Marumaruseikatsu, Demon Slayer, and Sarazanmai. Then we round out the week’s TV with Game of Thrones and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Afterward, we head to the season spotlight section to look at season two of Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Take a listen, then reach out with your thoughts on the week’s TV.

The main characters on Game of Thrones are hereditary aristocrats rather than democratic politicians*, but there are still major differences. Some of them think of themselves as having duties toward the people, while others (mostly the Lannisters and families allied with them) don’t. Within some of the more villainous families there are also somewhat prudent types who can act as worthy opponents, while others are irrationally cruel & spiteful.
*Jon Snow was actually elected Lord Commander of the Nights Watch, but being the bastard offspring of the pre-eminent noble family of the province in which the Watch is located helped make that possible. Daenerys is of royal descent, but in classical terms would be considered a tyrant who attained power directly through violent takeovers (using dragons) rather than inheriting a position or being elected to one. Given her popularity with the slaves she freed by doing so, she probably could be elected by them if she ever considered holding an election.
Nobody called Arya Stark a Mary Sue. There were just lots of people on the internet responding to imaginary people that exist only in their heads:
