April TV is ramping up, and Noel and Kate have (most of) it covered. After a Mon-El-themed opening discussion, we start off Our Week in TV with the comedy and genre offerings, including a preview of the upcoming Veep season premiere and looks at the Angie Tribeca premiere, the triumphant return of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and lighter episodes of Samurai Jack and iZombie. Next we talk drama and reality, including a preview of Hulu’s upcoming The Handmaid’s Tale, the mega-sized American Experience: The Great War, a princess-themed RuPaul’s Drag Race, memory-fueled The Good Fight, transitional American Crime, and a thrilling Harriet Tubman spotlight episode of Underground, “Minty.” Afterward, the season spotlight is back, as we dive in with Netflix’s hopefully one-season wonder, 13 Reasons Why.

I was a bit later than Kate in getting cable. I knew people who were really into MST3K, but for my family we mostly just knew “This Island Earth”, since that episode was available for rent on VHS.
Mallory Ortberg (in another podcast) critiques contemporary discourse on the relevance of The Handmaid’s Tale in a way I hadn’t heard of before: noting that it is largely inspired by historical incidents related to the treatment of non-whites, applied (in this dystopia) to middle class white women.
